So after dealing with many nagging injuries and incessant muscle soreness, I decided that I was ready to try anything that might bring me some relief. I visit my chiropracter when I feel the need to, but quite honestly, he merely treats the symptoms of my pain vs. truly geting to the source. So, one morning last week, during one of my personal training sessions, my client recommended that I go see a Chinese medical doctor from Shanghai, who practises the art of shiatsu and acupuncture. She went to him during her pregnancy when she was literally bent over in excruciating back pain. She said after 30 minutes, she was once again standing upright and feeling like herself again. How could I not try it out???
After just a few minutes lying on the table, and applying moderate pressure all over my body, Dr. Chen concluded that my body was suffering from a calcium deficiency. He told me that my severe muscle soreness and frequent injuries were directly related to the lack of calcium in my blood. He suggested that that I supplement with 750 mg of calcium citrate and vitamin D, three times a day, for a whopping total of 2500 mg!
The shiatsu massage that followed, was like nothing I’ve ever experienced before. At one point, he pressed on the area between my thumb and forefinger, and I nearly jumped off the table. Who knew that our bodies carried so much stress in our hands? After an hour of the most intense yet amazing massage, I could honestly say, that every muscle felt as though it was in a state of total relaxation.
So, has the calcium worked its magic? Well, after two days of supplementing with calcium, my body is feeling much looser, more flexible and in general, much happier.
I’m planning on going for a long ride tomorrow, so I’m hoping that my lower back won’t cause me the same nagging pain that I experienced last weekend. We shall see.…
Hope you’re all having a great weekend!
