Hi everyone,
Hope you are all doing well and have missed my blogs over the last few days! I had the pleasure of spending some one-on-one time with my 16 yr. old daughter in the crazy yet fabulous city of Vegas and sunny Palm Desert where my dad resides over the cold winter months. What a joy it was to run outside and feel the warm sun on my face! Unfortunately, I didn’t have an opportunity to ride but the outdoor runs more than made up for it.
When my hubby and I are planning our vacations, we only choose hotels that provide fully equipped gyms because we both like to enjoy great meals with delicious wines and working out allows us a bit of leeway with our diet. For the most part, I try to stay as close to my diet as possible but try to be flexible when need be. Packing protein powder in resealable baggies ensures a solid amount of protein in, post-workout. It helps to take the edge off your hunger too, especially if you’re forced to wait in a long breakfast line! Breakfast typically consists of egg whites with lots of veggies (most restaurants will do just about anything for you. All you need to do is ask!), and a bowl of oatmeal. Lunch typically, is a big leafy salad with some kind of lean protein, while dinner tends to be a tad more indulgent. I try to stay away from sugar as much as possible, so dessert has never been much of an issue for me. The bread basket however, is another story. Baguettes, sourdoughs, bagels…you name it, I’m there. I make sure it’s worth the calories and then choose one piece and push the basket far away.
Bottom line, a holiday should feel different than your everyday life, so go ahead and enjoy it. My word of caution however, is not to overdo it or neglect your workouts. Both will jeopardize your overall fitness and health and coming back will make it that much harder.
Have a good night! I’ll be back soon!
